The Angel of the Nativity

The three piece work is done from the philosophical stand point that angels are messages from God, not simply messengers. Thus, the angel addresses you, the viewer, with the "news that shall be for all people."  The shepherds and their flocks, as well as Bethlehem, is made very small in the piece because they have already heard the news.  They are already, metaphorically, in the past.  This makes the sculpture more than simply an illustration of a bibical event, but rather a contemporary invocation.

Since the message is "to all people,"  I created an angel of racially blended features.

A study done before the final piece, and a plaque using the just the face of the angel were cast as seperate 2 ft square (.65 x .65 meter) set and sold as fund raisers for non profits.
